    “Hoofers Hooligans” rides again!

I will be leading a ride of like-minded Riders to Ontario again this year, if anyone wants to accompany me.  The ride will be similar to last year, with an emphasis on safe group travel, camaraderie, respect, and fun.  Details are still being worked out, but I have been approached by a couple of individuals and organizations that want to feed us and help us out along the way.  This ride will probably leave on Thursday, as we did last year, and arrive in Ontario on Sunday.  (The dates may be shifted to Friday – Monday, though.)

If you are interested in joining the Hooligans, let me know.  I am sure the ride west will be a good one!

    Cheers!

Hoofer, I’m a FNG this year and myself and a buddy are planning on the trip to CA to start the RFTW.  Was wondering your approximate route, we’re from Kansas, so your closest stop might be

    Dallas, per PartsMan.  Thanks!

    Hoofer,

Might there be room in your merry band of like minded riders headed in the same general direction for one more?  I have few redeeming qualities, have a hard time being seen as my bike is rather dull in appearance, and have no personality.

I realized that I left a few details out of my initial post. so here is what I know at this time.  The “Hooligans” will leave Dallas, Texas on Thursday, May 11, 2017.  We will travel approximately 300 miles per day, arriving in Ontario, California in the late morning/early afternoon of Sunday, May 14.  (These dates may be shifted to May 12-15 if needed.)  The route will be primarily along Highway 20 and 10, but there will be a few minor detours.  The ride will be similar to last year, with an emphasis on safe group travel, camaraderie, respect, and fun.  (Even if Juice DOES join us!)

I have been contacted by a few individuals and organizations that want to feed us on this trip, and help take care of us.  For their offers, I already say “Thank You!”  As more details are made known to me, I will pass them along to you.

One of the things that made last years Ride interesting (at least to me!) was that we stopped each day and had a memorial ceremony of some sort, to help get us into the “RFTW frame of mind.”  We will do something similar to that this year, but on a less formal basis.  For a “hint” of what we may be doing, check out “http://www.TourOfHonor.com“.  You do NOT have to join the Tour Of Honor!  It is simply a good listing of memorials all across the nation, and a chance to see some things you may not have known about before.  Consider this a “sight-seeing” ride before the Run begins!  🙂

All Riders are welcome to join me on this ride from Dallas to Ontario.  It is a great opportunity to get to know some of your fellow RFTW Riders, from all three routes, as well as providing a little safety and security in numbers.  If you want to practice riding side-by-side in a relaxed atmosphere, this is a good chance!  Otherwise, we will primarily ride in a staggered formation.

I’ll post more details as the time gets closer.

    Cheers!

Hey Jim! Good to hear you’ll be leading the motley crew again this year. I look forward to joining – as last year – in Phoenix for the run into the LA area.

That is….if Sunday is the arrival day. Please let us know when that decision has been made. If Monday is the call then, unfortunately, you won’t see me until Ontario.

Either way. looking forward to seeing all of you again soon.

    Hoofer,

Glad to see that you are going to lead a pack of “Hooligans” to California again this year.  Unfortunately we won’t be joining you.  The Hobbit and I are going to leave a little early and make our own way West.  See you in Ontario.  Be careful and have a fun trip.

What is going on y’all?  I will be riding RFTW this year on my CanAm (had to sell my two’s due to injury..sad face).  I live in El Paso, and have not seen your post yet if you all are still coming through to stop at the memorial.  I would also like to link up with yall and ride to Ontario.  here is my number 256-665-6831, hit me up.  I ride with Rolling Thunder NM1.

    Howdy Dagger!

I would be proud to ride with you.  (Watch out for “Juice.”  He’s a little wild.  At least he is easy to see on that bumble-bee inspired Harley of his!)

We will definitely be riding through El Paso, and I hope to stop at the Memorial again this year.  It’s not a definite thing yet, but I am pretty sure it will happen.  (It is a good rendezvous spot in EP, and a nice place to stop and rest the legs before heading over the mountains.)

The itinerary is still be worked out.  We have had several offers for food and lodging locations, and I am still trying to make everything work.  The final itinerary will not be posted until early April, though.

Stay tuned.  There will be more info coming!

    Cheers!

    Hoofer & The Hooligans,

I live in Charlotte, NC. I heard about RFTW from a movie on Netflix called “Straydog”. Funny thing is, I was on a solo ride in Wilmington, NC watching it on my phone. I’ve watched the movie 2-3 times already.

I’m an OEF ’09 vet. I’ve had a lot of trouble “re-integrating” (the Army’s fancy shmancy word). I’ve avoided vets because I wanted to forget, but we are the only ones that understand.

I’m looking to join a Run To The Run.  After visiting a national cemetery (Salisbury VAMC) I knew I had to do this run. Mostly, because I’m already doing it (riding and showing respect for our vets past, present, and future).  I think the best way to keep people from trying to change who you are is to join something you are already doing.

Look forward to seeing all of you in Dallas, TX.

Howdy “Numbers” and Welcome to the RFTW Family!

You will soon find out that RFTW Riders ARE Family, and we help each other.  You will find that there ARE people who are ready and willing to listen to you, offer advise when needed, or just “be there.”  We all share your same ideals of showing respect for our Vets (past, present and future!)  You will also find that not everyone on the Run is a Vet.  (I am not a Veteran.)  But we all understand that you have been through an “interesting experience” and that you need time and help to “re-integrate.”  That’s why we are here!  🙂

I look forward to having you join us on the “Hooligans Ride.”  I will be posting more details in the next couple of weeks.  In the meantime, if you need anything, just ask!

    Cheers!

In past  years the group from DFW area stopped in Weatherford exit 210 truck stop.  We now have a new QT service center open just a couple miles west at exit 207 (South Bowie Street) with much easier exit and entrance to the interstate.  Not sure about seating for dining in but have a nice grill and other food selections.
